A Licensed Melbourne Electrician, Not a Call Centre

Litmec Electrical has been trading since 2007. We are a licensed electrical contractor — REC-10383, registered with Energy Safe Victoria — based in Newport and working right across Greater Melbourne. When you call, you get an electrician, not a dispatcher reading from a script and sending whoever happens to be nearest.

That matters more than it sounds. A great deal of what gets sold as electrical work in Melbourne is quoted by someone who has never seen the property. We look at the job, tell you what genuinely needs doing, and quote a fixed price against it. If half of what you have been told you need is unnecessary, we would rather say so and do the smaller job properly.

Our core work is domestic — switchboards, rewiring, lighting, faults and renovations — but commercial and industrial work has been part of what we do since the beginning. Shopfronts, office fit-outs, ongoing maintenance contracts and after-hours work where a business cannot afford to lose a trading day.

What We Do

How We Quote, and What You Get

Quotes are free and fixed. We price after looking at the job rather than over the phone, because the things that move the number on electrical work — asbestos backing, original consumer mains, solid brick with no wall cavity — are not things you can assess from a description.

Every job comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety. For prescribed work such as rewiring or a new switchboard, that also means independent inspection by a Licensed Electrical Inspector. Keep the certificate — your insurer may want it, and your buyer's conveyancer almost certainly will. If a tradesperson is vague about providing one, that tells you something about the rest of the job.

Not sure what something should cost? Our cost estimator gives a ballpark, and our guides set out what actually drives the price on the jobs people ask about most.

Common Questions

What areas of Melbourne do you cover?

We are based in Newport and work across Greater Melbourne. The inner west is our home patch — Newport, Williamstown, Yarraville, Spotswood, Footscray, Altona — and we work regularly through the bayside and inner south, including Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Albert Park and Brighton, plus Point Cook and West Footscray. Elsewhere in metro Melbourne, ring and ask.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Litmec Electrical is a registered electrical contractor, REC-10383, registered with Energy Safe Victoria, and fully insured. You can verify a contractor's registration through Energy Safe Victoria, and you should — for any electrician, not just us.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Quotes are free and fixed. We price after looking at the job rather than over the phone, because the things that move the number are not visible in a description.

Do you do commercial and industrial work?

Yes, and we have since 2007. Shopfronts, offices, mixed-use buildings, fit-outs and ongoing maintenance. We can work after hours or weekends where a shutdown during trading is not an option.

Will I get a Certificate of Electrical Safety?

Always. For prescribed work such as rewiring or a new switchboard, the job is also independently inspected by a Licensed Electrical Inspector before the certificate is issued. Keep it for your insurer and for when you sell.

Do you do emergency call-outs?

Yes. If you can smell burning, see sparks or scorch marks, or the board is tripping and will not reset, turn the power off at the main switch and call 0418 583 097. We will give you an honest answer about how soon we can be there, and tell you if it is a network fault we cannot help with rather than charging you for a call-out you did not need.
