Emergency Electrician in Melbourne

Some electrical problems can wait for a scheduled visit. Some cannot. If you can smell burning, if an outlet is sparking, or if your switchboard is tripping repeatedly and won't stay on, that's not a job for next week — turn the power off at the main switch and call us.

When it's genuinely urgent

Call straight away if you notice: a burning or hot plastic smell near a switch, outlet or the switchboard; visible sparks or scorch marks; an outlet or switch that's hot to touch; the switchboard tripping repeatedly and refusing to reset; or a partial power loss where some circuits work and others don't. Any of these mean something is failing, and electrical faults do not fix themselves.

What to do before we arrive

Turn off the power at the main switch if it's safe to reach. Unplug appliances on the affected circuit. Don't try to reset a breaker that keeps tripping — it's tripping for a reason, and forcing it back on is how a fault becomes a fire. Stay away from anything that's sparking or wet.

Lost power but the neighbours have theirs

If your neighbours have power and you don't, the fault is on your side of the meter, and that's an electrician's job. If the whole street is out, it's a distribution problem and you want the network operator, not us — we'll tell you honestly which one it is rather than charging you for a call-out you didn't need.

Common causes we find

Failed safety switches, water ingress into an outdoor outlet or roof cavity, a rodent through the wiring, an appliance with an internal fault dragging the whole circuit down, or simply an old board that's finally given up. Most are fixable on the spot. Some point to a bigger problem worth addressing properly.

Common Questions

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Burning smells, sparks, scorch marks, hot outlets or switches, repeated tripping that won't reset, or a partial power loss. If you're unsure, turn the power off at the main switch and call us — we'd rather talk you through it than have you take a risk.

My whole street has no power. Should I call an electrician?

No — that's a network problem, and your distributor needs to fix it. If only your house is out while the neighbours have power, then the fault is on your side of the meter and that's when you call us.

Should I reset a breaker that keeps tripping?

No. It's tripping because something is wrong. Repeatedly forcing it back on is how a fault turns into a fire. Leave it off and get it looked at.

Do you do after-hours call-outs?

We offer emergency call-outs alongside our regular Monday to Friday hours. Ring 0418 583 097 and we'll give you an honest answer about how quickly we can get to you.
