Data Cabling, CCTV & Communications in Melbourne
Wi-Fi is convenient right up until it isn't. If you work from home, game, or run a business off your network, a hardwired data point is faster, stable, and doesn't drop out when someone microwaves lunch. Data and comms have been part of what we do since the name went on the van — it's the 'Data' in Litmec Electrical.
Hardwired data points
A Cat6 data point to the office, the TV, or wherever your work actually happens will outperform Wi-Fi every time — lower latency, no dropouts, full speed. If you're renovating or the walls are open, running data cable at the same time as the power costs almost nothing extra and you'll be glad of it for the next twenty years.
CCTV and security cameras
Cameras are only useful if they're positioned properly, and most DIY installs are pointed at the wrong things. Coverage of entry points, adequate light or IR at night, and a recorder that's not sitting somewhere a burglar would find it in ten seconds. We'll plan the coverage rather than just bolting cameras to walls.
Commercial data and comms
We do a lot of commercial fit-out work — offices, warehouses, storage facilities — where the data cabling, the power, and the lighting all have to be coordinated and finished to a schedule. It's a different discipline to domestic work and we've been doing it for decades.
We recently completed the electrical and data extension for a storage facility, including lighting, power and security across dozens of new rooms. See the project.
TV points and antennas
Still plenty of demand for a properly installed TV point rather than a cable snaking across the floor. Straightforward job, tidy result.

Is a hardwired data point better than Wi-Fi?
For anything that matters — working from home, gaming, video calls, a business network — yes, noticeably. Lower latency, no dropouts, and consistent full speed.
Can you install CCTV for my home?
Yes. The important part is planning where the cameras go so they actually cover your entry points and work at night, rather than just mounting them and hoping.
Should I run data cable during a renovation?
Yes, without question. With the walls open it costs very little on top of the electrical work, and retrofitting it later through finished plaster is a much bigger job.
Do you do commercial data cabling?
We do. Office fit-outs, warehouses and commercial facilities — coordinating data, power and lighting to a build schedule is a big part of what we've done for decades.
