This one out in Yarraville was a bit different to your everyday lighting job — and a great example of what LED strip lighting can do in the right spot. The owner had a converted garage with feature brickwork, and wanted to bring it to life with some hidden strip lighting.
We installed three runs of warm LED strip lighting, recessed to frame each brick panel so the light washes down the wall and picks up the texture of the brick. The strips are tucked in behind a clean shadowline, so you see the glow, not the fitting — which is exactly what makes this look work. Get the concealment wrong and it looks cheap; get it right and it looks like a designer did it.
The result speaks for itself against the polished concrete floor — a garage that feels more like a bar or a games room than a place to park the car. LED strip is one of the most underrated bits of lighting we do: low running cost, barely any heat, and a completely different feel to standard downlights. If you've got a wall, a bar, a kitchen kickboard or a staircase that'd suit it, it's well worth a look.
